Recovery of DMSO solvent contaminated with process water by vacuum evaporation

Content

We have successfully recovered the DMSO solvent from the process water with the help of a vacuum evaporation system installed at our site in Jászfényszaru.

Recovery is possible in two stages, in two purity levels:

  1. Process water is drawn off from the DMSO solvent used. The recovered solvent contains approximately 10% water and other contaminants from the original technology
  2. DMSO is refined to remove some of the remaining water and any other contaminants. The recovered DMSO contains less than 5% water and is otherwise considered pure.

The process water prepared for recovery is received in IBC tanks without mechanical impurities by the evaporation unit and the recovered DMSO and, if required, the evaporation water is also returned to the IBC tanks.

Intro

Our last research for CERN was to develop a technology that allows the splices of low-temperature superconducting cables to be in a superconducting state as well, meaning that no voltage is applied to them.
